Jabba Gibber Welcome

Hello and Welcome to Jabba Gibber

Jabba The Hut - Star Wars

Jabba The Hut.

A Telling Name

Why jabbergibber.com? I wanted the name of the site to represent Star Wars in some way without stepping on anyone’s toes in terms of copyright or trademarks. The name Jabba Gibber is a play on the name of Jabba The Hut from the Star Wars movies and the form of chit chat affectionately known as jibber jabber. I would have liked to call it Jibba Jabba or Jabba Jibber, but there are other sites on the internet that have adopted similar names even though unrelated to Star Wars.

Save The Star Wars Expanded Universe Before It Is Lost Forever

I started this site as a tribute to the world of Star Wars, particularly the Star Wars Legends and Star Wars Expanded Universe, in the hopes that it will help preserve the books and storylines that may end up being cast aside to make way for the new Star Wars reign by Disney.

A New Hope for the Star Wars Expanded Universe

A New Hope for the Star Wars Expanded Universe

So I guess, in a way, I am bringing a new hope to protecting the authors and creators who have been responsible for extending the story far beyond Star Wars episode 6 – The Return Of The Jedi. They deserve to be acknowledged for keeping the universe I love so much alive with wonder and excitement each time I open a new book or comic. If you have been exposed to Star Wars, but never knew of the expanded universe, you may be glad of stumbling across this website. Please visit a while and have look around, and bookmark this site for future reference should you wish to delve into this amazing saga as it continues on. You will not be disappointed. Whenever I get a new book, I have been known to sit up reading long into the night because I can’t put it down.

Some Say Yay, Some Say Nay

Let me explain at this point that you won’t find me getting involved in debating the issue of which of the movie trilogies were better. I am a fan of the Star Wars movies and books, and the Star Wars Expanded Universe for the simple reason that I love the story and the characters, which means that I don’t mind how it is presented as long as it’s good and represents those two elements. It is nigh on impossible for me to cast a vote as to which were the better movies, the originals or the prequels, because they are both so very different in the cinematography and styles and time between their production, however, the characters and storylines are both good.

I have maintained that the originals will always be my favourite because of the way I was introduced to the story in my early teens. Read Here. However the action, suspense and special effects of the prequel, Star Wars episode 3 – Revenge of The Sith would have to come very close to rating as my number one favourite if it wasn’t for the fact that my heart has always belonged to the original characters for the most part.

The Characters Are What Keeps Me Coming Back

I have read some of the storylines from the comics set thousands of years in the past, and liked them, but I probably won’t be discussing these quite as much because again, my love and passion for the story, really belongs to the characters of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, C3PO, R2D2, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker, Obiwan Kenobi, Padme (Queen Amidala) and last but certainly not least, Yoda. This blog is a dedication to Luke Skywalker, my hero, LOL, and that is the main storyline that I follow with passion and baited breath for the next installment in the book series. The stories introduce many new characters but as long as they still include my heroes, I am more than happy to read those books.

The newer characters that play larger roles in the storylines of the expanded universe are heavily intertwined with the original characters which makes for a certain depth of reading experience. Some of my favourites in the introduced characters are Mara Jade, Jacen, Jaina, Ben (full names excluded to avoid spoilers and one character left out of this list for the same reason). I also quite enjoy the characters of Jagged Fel, Admiral Thrawn and Tenal Ka, to name just a few. There are also a couple of minor characters from the movies that have had their stories become an integral part of the extended universe and play a much larger role, such as Wedge Antilles for one. I hope that wets your appetite to learn a little more about this fantastic addition to the story.

Congruence In The Stories Is A Must

What I find the most fascinating and exciting about the books of the star wars extended universe, is that each book follows on from one story or another. It is imperative and was also a demand of George Lucas when he was in control of all things Star Wars, that anything that happened to a character, must continue to be upheld throughout all subsequent storylines. That is one mean feat considering there are a few hundred books that make up the star wars expanded universe and all of them never, ever are guilty of an incongruent story.

Confucius Say.....

Confucius Say…..

Getting back to my decision to write about my passion and hopefully bring the Star Wars Expanded Universe to you, it wasn’t really a difficult task to write about my favourite topic. When I first decided to write about my passion for Star Wars I thought to myself, ‘Oh dear, I will have to re-watch the movies’. ‘Oh No!’ And ‘Oh dear, I’ll have to re-read the books for this’, ‘Oh No, I don’t know how I can bring myself to do that’, LOL. The reality is that you don’t have to twist my arm to watch or read any of these movies and books twice, three times or many. Am I crazy? Well, perhaps just a little. But to be perfectly honest, this is fun, not work. I am really looking forward to presenting to you this collection of tales and stories that span thousands of years previous to the original Star Wars Trilogy, and reach up to 45 years farther on from the New Hope movie, the very first Star Wars movie and book ever.

The Star Wars Expanded Universe Has Changed

Once known as the Star Wars Expanded Universe or EU, the storylines will be dropped from the main storylines of the new Star Wars era and be known as the Star Wars Legends instead. Anything that relates to the new Star Wars stories (post Lucasfilm and George Lucas) will now be known as a canon. So Star Wars Canons are the new stories and will pave a new direction for the saga but not necessarily following on from any of the stories from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. While the Star Wars Legends, previously known as the Star Wars Expanded Universe will become the stories that have been written almost like side stories to the main one, but the once renowned congruence will not necessarily fit in the same way that it previously did. I tell you this because you may come across books written that fall into one category or the other, but you will know where they fit in to the story or universe now you are aware of the changes.

Personally, I’m not quite sure how I feel about Disney taking over just yet. I was very excited to hear that they were producing some new movies, and even more excited to find out that the main characters and the actors who played them will be reprising their involvement in them. However I suspect that the characters from the old movies will only play very small roles in the new movies in order for the stage to be set to hand over the reigns to a new generation of characters. That is the part I am not so sure about. I don’t know if I can fully let go of my favourite characters to completely embrace this new direction, so I am waiting to make my decision after seeing the movies and reading the new stories. I can only hope that the authors who have written for the expanded universe still be allowed and encouraged to continue the storylines they have set in motion so that people like me, who don’t want to lose our stories of our favourite characters, can still look forward to reading more exciting adventures. Failing that, I might have to start writing my own stories to continue on but that won’t be very exciting, seems I would probably know the ending already. Of course any fiction created by myself or anyone else involving these characters would not be made for sale.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the aims of this site and decide for yourself to look into embracing the many stories available from this fantastic universe. If you have any comments you’d like to share please add it below.

Thank you and I just have to say it, “May the force be with you”.
